MOUGINS FRENCH RIVIERA

Capital of the Gastronomy and the Lifestyles, situated right in the heart of Côte d’Azur(French Riviera), Mougins benefits from a privileged situation: in 30 minutes of the airport Nice-Côte d’Azur of Azure and in 15 km from Cannes and in 40 km of the closest winter sports resort.

Crossed by the road Napoleon, Mougins is a real pearl, particularly protected, where from his(her,its) nickname of “city-garden”. She(it) dominates a panorama amazing with on one side the villages of Pre-Alps and the other one, the Bay(Berry) of Cannes and her(its) Lérins Islands.

She(It) is also one of the five creative cities of Sophia-Antipolis with Valbonne, Biot, Antibes, Vallauris and welcomes on its territory 18 % of the high-tech city of Sophia-Antipolis.

Mougins shelters the Pond of Fontmerle, spectacular area remained wild welcoming several families of migratory birds coming to hibernate but especially the biggest colony of flowers of Lotus of Europe.

Down from its hook, bathed by an exceptional light, the old village of Mougins, characterized by its ancestral alleys rolled up in the shape of snail, attracts for the XIXth century numerous artists such as: Francis Picabia, Fernand Léger, Paul Eluard, Jean Cocteau, Isadora Duncan, Man Ray but also Chritian Dior, Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Yves Saint Laurent appreciated(estimated) his timeless peace of mind.

The most famous of them rest unquestionably PABLO PICASSO who, lover of Mougins, settles down there definitively in 1962 and will cross the last twelve years of his life there.

This artists’ village which always maintained narrow links with the creation, counts about twenty art galleries and studios(workshops), among which the Museum of Classic Art of Mougins (MACM) which groups in a medieval house a private collection of more than 700 exceptional rooms of antique, neo-classic, modern and contemporary art. If, paints(paintings) and artists’ sculptures so famous as Marc Chagall, are next drawings to Damian Hirst, to Paul Cézanne, to Pablo Picasso, to Marc Quinn, to Rembrandt there …

But the fame of the village is before gastronomic: Mougins is the only city in certified France ” City and Art professions “in conformance with the Gastronomy ! The reputation of high gastronomy of Mougins is due to the famous leader Roger Vergé and its 5 stars, the inventor of laCuisine of the Sun in the “Mill of Mougins” and in “the Almond tree”.

The city organizes every year in September the International Festival of the Gastronomy, welcoming most French and foreign big bosses, come offer to a public enthusiast demonstrations, studios, cooking show in a sophisticated and friendly atmosphere.

The municipality also possesses several monuments, of which the chapel ” Notre-Dame of Life ” registered on the register of historic monuments since 1927. It presents a particular architectural and historic interest, collecting all the esthetic characteristics of the Provençal religious monuments of the 17th century.
